With fall is just around the corner, it’s never too early to start planning your seasonal adventures. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly events, spooky thrills or a leisurely stroll through the autumn leaves, you’ll find it all here.

The natural beauty of the Treasure Valley is captivating all year long, and fall is no exception. With the arrival of cool, crisp weather and foliage in full swing, you’ll definitely want to make the most of your pumpkin-spiced season.

Autumn activities for everyone

When looking for fall excitement for the whole family, head to Lowe Family Farmstead in Kuna. Home to Idaho’s original corn maze — a colossal labyrinth that features a different aerial design each year — and is accompanied by a full lineup of fall activities.

Enjoy tractor-drawn hayrides to the pumpkin patch, roam a four-acre flower field, and shop for fresh produce from the farm. If your schedule allows, Monday through Thursday admissions are discounted. The fall season kicks off September 13 and runs through October.

Just north of Boise, Mumpkin Fest at 3 Sisters Greenhouse is another great stop. With family-friendly activities including a zipline, giant bounce pad, pumpkin chunkin’, caramel apple making, and much more. The Greenhouse hosts the festival this year from October 3 through 28 and will have a professional photographer on site to capture all the fall fun. Between the farms and harvest festivals in towns like Eagle and Emmett, the Treasure Valley offers plenty of opportunities to show off those new sweaters.

Fun With A Fright

Fall wouldn’t be complete without a frightfully fun Halloween. If you’re craving the nostalgic charm of a traditional All Hallows’ Eve, Harrison Blvd. in downtown Boise is the place to be. Every October 31, the historic street closes to traffic and transforms into a walkable Halloween extravaganza. Fun for all ages, this is a great spot to make sure your treats outnumber your tricks.

The road closes in the afternoon and remains pedestrian-only until midnight. Surrounding streets also welcome trick-or-treaters — just be sure to stick to sidewalks, as some roads remain open to cars.

If spine-tingling scares are more your thing, Idaho’s Old Penitentiary is a must-visit. Built in 1870 and in operation for over a century, this once-active prison housed many of the area’s most notorious offenders and even held executions. It is considered one of Idaho’s most haunted locations and has been featured on several ghost-hunting TV series. While tours run year-round, October brings an extra layer of eerie energy — for reasons we can only guess.

Next, head to Caldwell’s Haunted World, Idaho’s largest haunted attraction. This indoor-outdoor fright fest spans over 40 acres and offers a two-hour nonstop scare adventure. It opens Friday, September 13 (fitting, right?) and runs through Halloween night.
